Howard Morgan is currently the Chairman of B Capital. He co-founded First Round Capital with Josh Kopelman as the first professional Seed Stage Fund, where he remains Senior Advisor. Prior to First Round, Howard helped found Idealab with Bill Gross, and served as President of Renaissance Technologies, which he co-founded with Jim Simons. Prior to his move into the business of technology, Howard served as a professor at the Wharton School and the Moore School, both at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as at Cornell University. He is also an Executive Fellow at UC Berkeley.
Howard’s research on user interface technology and the optimization of computer networks was critical to bringing the ARPAnet to Philadelphia in the 1970s. Through this early internet participation, he helped corporate and government agencies use technology to improve the efficiency of both large and small organizations. He also has deep experience with very large databases, and served as the first Editor of the ACM Transactions on Database Systems Journal.
Throughout his career, Howard has sought out great people and nurtured them so that they could realize their dreams. His mentees have included both PhD students researching a key topic, and early stage entrepreneurs building companies and taking them from seed stage through initial public offerings. He currently serves as a Director of Idealab, and he is on the board of several non-profits including Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories and Math For America. He has also served on a number of public company Boards, including Franklin Electronic Publishers and Internet Brands, Inc. He was CEO of Kentek and Franklin during various turnover or transitional periods, an in 1997, he was named Delaware Valley Entrepreneur of the Year. Howard is a respected author and a frequent speaker at major industry conferences.
Howard received a PhD in Operations Research from Cornell University in 1968, and a BS in Physics from City College of the City University of New York in 1965.
Joe Davis is currently the Vice-Chairman of B Capital. He is also a Senior Partner and Managing Director at The Boston Consulting Group and currently Chairman of North America, overseeing the firm’s operations in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Joe began his career in the Boston office and has been with BCG for nearly 30 years. He co-founded and subsequently lead BCG’s Washington DC office, established the U.S. Federal Public Sector Practice Area at BCG, led BCG’s Northeast and West Coast Systems subsequently and played a key role in launching BCG Digital Ventures. Joe is a core member of the Public Sector, Consumer, Retail and Organization practice areas. His work has primarily focused on large scale change, transformation, and organizational effectiveness. Notable achievements include the reorganization of the FDIC in light of the massive increase in bank failures during the crisis, reorganization of the merchandising and marketing departments in two major multi-banner retailers, a post-merger integration of a combined $40B+ grocery retailer, and the redesign and transformation of a major multi-channel retailer to ensure effective leveraging of its scale.
Prior to his time at BCG, Joe worked for six years in sales and sales management with Proctor & Gamble.
Joe is an active supporter of his alma mater, Whitman College, where he earned an undergraduate degree in Economics and met his wife, Sarah, and is currently on the Board of Trustees. Joe also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Raj Ganguly is a Co-Founder and Partner at B Capital. He is based in B Capital’s Los Angeles office, and currently serves on the boards of Lanetix, InTurn, and Evidation Health. In addition, Raj is a Senior Advisor to the Boston Consulting Group.
Previously, Raj was a Managing Partner of Velos Partners, a global venture growth firm with offices in Los Angeles, Singapore, and London. He led investments in a number of companies and sat on the boards of SurfAir and Silvercar (acquired by Audi AG).
Before his career in venture capital, Raj spent six years at Bain Capital, with a focus on conducting operational due diligence and driving growth and operational improvements in portfolio companies across the United States and Asia. During his time at Bain Capital, he had significant involvement in the diligence and boards of numerous investments, including Skylark, Genpact, and Burlington Coat Factory. He also served as the co-leader of the firm’s global technology initiative.
Raj also spent time at the consulting firm McKinsey & Company, where he was a Senior Engagement Manager in the Technology, Media, and Telecom Practice of the firm. He has experience as an interim executive with British food and beverage giant Diageo, and was part of the early team of Miradiant, one of the first internet payments startups, which was acquired by Bank One Corporation, that later merged with J.P. Morgan Chase.
Raj earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, and summa cum laude honors as a BSE and BAS from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and School of Engineering and Applied Science, where he graduated from the Management & Technology Program as a Benjamin Franklin Scholar and Joseph Wharton Scholar.
Eduardo Saverin is a Co-Founder and Partner at B Capital. He leads B Capital’s Singapore office, and serves on the boards of CXA and Ninja Van.
Eduardo was the first investor in and Co-Founder of Facebook. Today, Facebook is a publicly traded company with a market cap surpassing $380 billion, which empowers more than one billion people of all age groups, geographies, languages, and cultural affinities to share and make the world a more open and connected place.
He is squarely focused on investing in the next wave of technological innovation. As a technology investor and mentor, he has advised and worked closely with an array of companies of all sizes and stages that share one common thread: a passion for people-centric innovation with pan-global ambitions that leverage mobile platforms.
Eduardo jointly invested with Raj in several companies prior to co-founding B Capital, including, but not limited to, 99.co, Hopscotch, and Bilna, where he sits on the Board today, and Silvercar, where he is a Board Observer. He was the Anchor LP of Velos Partners.
Mr. Saverin earned cum laude honors as a BA recipient at Harvard University.
Gavin Teo is a Partner at B Capital Group, where he heads the firm’s San Francisco office and leads investments in healthcare and consumer enablement. He currently serves on the Boards of SilverCloud Health, Bright.md and AImotive and manages the firm’s investments in Evidation Health and CXA.
Prior to joining B Capital, Gavin spent five years at Comcast Ventures, the venture capital arm of Comcast and NBC Universal, where he sourced, led, and managed investments in healthcare, IoT and VR/AR. Earlier in his career, Gavin was a product manager for FarmVille at Zynga, a management consultant at Bain & Company, and served in the Singapore Armed Forces.
Gavin earned an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated as a Palmer Scholar, and earned his BA from Claremont McKenna College, where he graduated magna cum laude. Gavin originally hails from Singapore, grew up in Hong Kong, and has made California his home for the last twenty years.
Kabir Narang is a Partner at B Capital based in Singapore. He leads investments for the firm focused on financial technology and consumer enablement.
Kabir was previously a Partner at Eight Roads Ventures India, Fidelity’s venture capital investment arm. During his tenure at Eight Roads, he led investments in technology and financial services. Kabir was also a member of the Regional Partnership, which actively evaluated investment opportunities across Asia, including China and Japan.
Prior to Eight Roads, Kabir was with Warburg Pincus, India, where he was involved with investments and portfolio management in Max India, Max Healthcare, and Kotak Mahindra Bank. Kabir first began his career in consulting, spanning over six years with McKinsey in India, and the Boston Consulting Group in the US. His work mainly focused on technology and financial services in the areas of strategy and operations.
Allen Duan is the B Capital Group Operating Partner based in New York City. Prior to B Capital, he was the Senior Vice President of Corporate Technology at Hearst. Spanning over 350 businesses, Allen led solutions and innovation across mobile, video, advertising, machine learning, voice/audio, data/analytics and other emerging technology. He co-founded Hearst’s first programmatic advertising team through CoreAudience while managing over 100 strategic partnerships.
Previously, Allen held several roles as Corporate Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Viacom and MTV Networks during the “Jersey Shore” era … as well as Senior Director of Corporate Development and M&A for Sony Corporation of America. He began his career with seven years as a Product Manager at Microsoft including a succession of business development and product planning roles across MSN, Financial Services and Mobile & Embedded Devices divisions.
Allen first started coding as an undergrad at Harvard University where he graduated magna cum laude with a joint Bachelor degree in Engineering Sciences and Economics. Allen subsequently also received an MBA from the Harvard Business School. Beyond his passion for software, he spends his time on areas ranging from his investment in Pied-a-Terre Wines to preparation for the next Spartan Race.
Virginia Schmitt is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer, based in B Capital’s Los Angeles office. As a member of B Capital’s platform team, she is responsible for finance, operations, and building out portfolio company programs.
Prior to joining, Virginia was a Vice President on the investment and operations teams at OpenGate Capital, a global lower-middle market focused private equity firm. Virginia is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive), and began her career in the Transaction Advisory Services group at Ernst & Young.
Virginia developed her love of debits and credits during her undergrad years at the University of Southern California (fight on!). She holds a BS in Accounting from the Leventhal School of Accounting and BS in Business Administration from the Marshall School of Business. In her free time, Virginia is an avid cookie baker and pilates enthusiast.
Jodi Yang is a Partner and Chief Marketing Officer at B Capital Group. She leads B Capital’s external and investor relations initiatives.
Ms. Yang was previously a founder of Gratia Capital, a multi-strategy hedge fund and spin-out of Canyon Capital, based in Los Angeles. She was also a founder of Novo, one of the fastest-growing fashion platforms in China and a KKR portfolio company, based in Shanghai.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Yang spent four years at HSBC in the corporate venture and business development office of the CEO in North America, where she managed investments in new innovations, M&A, and sat on several boards. Prior to HSBC, Ms. Yang was at Citi in a number of different roles, spanning capital markets, retail banking (fintech), and the CIO office at Travelers. Hailing from Detroit, her first real job was interning in marketing for General Motors.
She currently serves on the executive board of the Harvard Business School Association of Southern California and the steering committee for the Milken Institute Young Leaders Circle.
Ms. Yang earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Mike Fernandez is a Principal in B Capital’s Los Angeles office, where he focuses on investments in the firm’s Financial Services and Industrials & Transportation practices.
Previously, Mike was Senior Associate at Velos Partners, a global venture growth firm, where he was responsible for identifying and evaluating investments in companies in the retail innovation, transportation, and financial technology sectors.
He began his career as a management consultant with Bain & Company in Los Angeles and London, where he focused on digital transformation, innovation strategy, and corporate renewal. He also has worked in product management at Wilshire Axon, a digital product agency that was a predecessor to BCG Digital Ventures.
Mike received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
Bryan Ciambella is a Principal in B Capital’s Los Angeles office, where he focuses on investments in the firm’s Consumer Enablement vertical.
Prior to joining, he was a manager at InterActiveCorp (IAC), a media and internet holding company focused on investments/investment research, as well as strategy & business development. Bryan co-led IAC’s acquisition of Apalon, a top 10 worldwide iOS app publisher based in Minsk, Belarus, and subsequently moved to Eastern Europe to manage the integration. Bryan also invested in international early-stage software & media companies while at Liquidity Works, during which time he served as a Board Observer to Spark Analytics. Bryan began his career in TMT equity research as a part of The Street Ratings and State Street Bank.
Bryan founded Amped Fantasy, one of the first daily fantasy sports gaming companies, which was acquired by the Global Gaming Network and later by Innovativ Media Group. He also founded the World Championship of Ping Pong, which still airs in over 800 Million homes worldwide and was acquired by Matchroom Sports. In 2012, Bryan, along with Daniel Treiman, championed the US launch of Hello Fresh (HFG:FRA), the largest global meal kit e-commerce company for Rocket Internet. He led the hiring of US-based employees, operations setup and managed business development.
Bryan received his BA in Finance from the University of Rochester. He received his Master’s in Investment Management from Cass Business School (UK) and was awarded a distinction for his Research Dissertation on valuation techniques for illiquid internet companies. He enjoys playing golf and ice hockey.
Dave Ng is a Principal in B Capital’s Singapore office. He is currently a Board Observer for both CXA and Ninja Van. He has a track record of investing in promising early and growth stage consumer technology and enterprise companies.
Before joining B Capital, Dave was a Director at Oracle, where he led the strategy for Cloud and Converged Infrastructure business. Dave also has experience as an early employee at Zuora, the leading enterprise SaaS for Subscription Business management. At Zuora, he led strategy and operations for the Services business, focusing on people, process, and infrastructure growth – scaling and expanding across US, EMEA and APAC. Earlier on, Dave was a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, working across China and Southeast Asia. He began his career in product development as a software engineer at Oracle, delivering multiple major product releases.
Besides his wife, Dave discovered his other true love – technology – in the late 80s when he picked up his first x286 and coding. He subsequently sought out a college experience where he could learn the art and science of programming. Dave graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a BS in Computer Engineering, BS in Economics, a minor Business Administration, and MS in Computer Engineering with University and College Honors. He also received an MPAID from Harvard. In his free time, Dave enjoys sharing his experience with entrepreneurs within the Southeast Asia ecosystem
Adam Seabrook is a Principal in B Capital’s Los Angeles office, where he on investments in Healthcare and Digital Health. He currently serves as a Board Observer to Evidation Health, SilverCloud Health, and Bright.md. Prior to joining B Capital, Adam worked at Hyde Park Angels, one of the largest angel networks in the US, while pursuing his MBA at the University of Chicago.
Before earning his MBA, Adam was an early employee at Imaging Advantage, a teleradiology startup that was recently acquired by Envision Healthcare. In his role, Adam managed teleradiology implementations at hospitals around the United States, led teleradiology workflow optimization efforts, and helped acquire physician practices as part of a rollup strategy. Adam also co-wrote a proposal to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, from which the company was awarded $6 million to develop a decision support tool for physicians.
Adam earned a BS in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University, where he also ran the 400m and 400m hurdles and served as the Co-Captain of the Varsity Track and Field team.
Pauline Andriejanssen is an Investor at B Capital based out of the Singapore office. She is primarily responsible for sourcing and leading investment diligence on technologies in the Consumer Enablement and Industrial & Transportation areas in Southeast Asia. She also serves as Board Observer for Ninja Van.
Prior to joining B Capital, Pauline was the Head of Strategy & Business Development at PT Media Indonusa, a mobile commerce services provider in Indonesia, where she led teams to develop and manage strategic partnerships supporting the company’s business portfolio. During that time, she also co-founded a women’s retail e-commerce startup in Jakarta, Indonesia. Previously, she worked at the Boston Consulting Group as an Associate in Jakarta, with a focus on consumer goods, financial institutions and corporate development.
Pauline graduated from Tufts University, majoring in Art History and Economics, and minoring in Entrepreneurial Leadership. She is also a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America. Outside of work, she enjoys reading psychology books, travelling around the world and learning about unique cultures.
Hailey Hu joined as an Investor in B Capital’s Singapore office after interning with the firm as an MBA Summer Associate. She supports B Capital’s Healthcare and Consumer Enablement investments.
Prior to joining B Capital, Hailey was a senior consultant in Accenture’s healthcare strategy practice. In this role, she led numerous clinical innovation and customer experience projects for national health insurance and hospital systems in the United States. Hailey is also deeply familiar with healthcare delivery in emerging markets, having worked on mobile health projects for the Grameen Foundation in Uganda and India.
Hailey completed her MBA at INSEAD in France and Singapore, and graduated magna cum laude from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in Finance.
Neil Kapur is an Investor in B Capital’s San Francisco office, focused on building out the firm’s Financial Services and Consumer Enablement verticals.
Prior to joining B Capital, Neil was part of Google’s emerging products business development team in San Francisco, where he worked to build partnerships across the ecosystem in order to launch and expand the company’s consumer-facing commerce and payments platforms. In addition to spending time in consulting and investment banking, Neil also led business development and strategy for a fintech startup, and has served as an advisor to a handful of other early stage companies and venture capital funds.
Neil earned an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and a BA in Economics from Emory University. At UCLA, he was awarded the Gloria Appel Prize for Excellence in Entrepreneurship and was named both a Venture Fellow and a Patrick J. Welsh Fellow. In his free time, Neil loves spending time outdoors and is an avid mountain climber.
May Ling Tee is Office and Operations Manager at B Capital, based out of the Singapore office. May Ling also serves as Eduardo Saverin’s Personal Assistant, and played a central role in setting up the Singapore office
Previously, May Ling was with the Blackstone Group based in London working within the advisory group. May Ling moved to Blackstone Singapore in 2013 to help with the setup of the Singapore office where she also served as Office Manager and Personal Assistant to the Chairman of Blackstone Singapore.
May Ling earned a BA in Law from the University of Buckingham and Legal Practice Certificate from the College of Law, London. She is well-versed in Malay and Japanese, on top of her native languages of English and Chinese.
James Cokrojoyo is the Executive Assistant to Kabir Narang, based in the Singapore office. Prior to B Capital, James was a Management Executive with a wide range of interesting roles in managing and running his family owned business.
James has spent time studying, working and living across Singapore, Indonesia, and London. His background is in design and he graduated from Goldsmiths College, London with a Bachelor of Arts.
Heather Lacey is the Office Manager at B Capital in the Los Angeles office. Previously, she spent over a decade working with some of the most established firms in entertainment, including WME. She made the cross over into tech and the startup space in 2013, and immediately fell in love with the fast-paced, ever-evolving industry.
Heather attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she excelled academically and as a varsity athlete. She is involved in community affairs, and has helped to organize charity events for inner-city community centers, as well as for the Los Angeles Fire Department. Fun fact: In her youth, Heather was an Ocean Rescue Lifeguard and a Sailing Instructor in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
